The Black Ghost

The Black Ghost pirate ship is fully inspected and certified by the US Coast Guard. She’s 45′ long and holds up to 30 passengers.

Her construction was completed in December of 1974 in Deltaville, Virginia. Deltaville has a rich history for building wooden deadrise Chesapeake workboats. But unlike typical boats built in Deltaville, she was built as a passenger ferry, not a waterman’s workboat.

She spent most of her life working for several companies as a passenger ferry on the Hudson River near New York City.  From there, she relocated to Cocoa Beach, Florida, as a cruise boat on the Indian River.  In 2015 she made her way north to Charleston and was transformed into a custom pirate ship and renamed “The Black Ghost”.  Initially, she was based in Bohicket Marina (near Kiawah Island) until The Pirates of Charleston relocated to Ripley Light Marina in Charleston. In 2025, she’s beginning her 10th year in service as the flagship for the Pirates of Charleston!
